Vestli U13 A played back back to games against Drammen on 30th May. Two members from the core team were unavailable including the captain, so we invited Dylan and Hashim to join the squad who have since moved to the U15 squad. 

In the first game, our stand-in captain Ismail won the toss and chose to bat first. Ismail and Arib opened the innings and gave a solid start. Arib had an unfortune dismissal in the third over when he dragged the ball onto the leg-stump try to play a flick. Kevin then joined Ismail and they went steady scoring 59 in 7 overs. We then introduced Saad and Hashim to bat at the beginning of the 8th over. Saad was caugth at mid off in the 10th over. Ismail went back for last three balls. Hashim and Ismail played till the end took the score to 85 for 2. The innings had nearly 25 wide/no balls so the boys did not get many balls to strike.

Pranaov started the balling attack and just on the 4th ball got a nick that was cleanly collected by our 'senior' keeper Dylan. Haider kept the next over rather tight barring one wide ball. Rushank came into attack in the third over and bowed excellent lengths fetching him a wicket on the 5th ball that went for an easy catch to Pranaov. Next Kevin came in with his unique angle of around the stumps balling. This one is difficult to nail and that's why there were leg side wides and another one was hit for a six. But as we have full faith in Kevin's bowling style, we always ask him to 'keep it there' and keep working on nailing the accuracy. Next our speedster Ismail bowled an excellent over. Batters didn't manage to time his speeding balls and top edged two of them which were 'walk in the park' catches for Dylan. At the end of 5 overs Drammen were struggling at 23 for 4. Rushank got another wicket when bowled the batter in the 7th over. Arib executed a simple run-out with excellent presence of mind and in the 9th over Haider got two wickets bowling Drammen out in 8.3 overs for 40 runs. One of those was an excellent catch by Ismail at short mid-wicket.

A convincing win by 45 runs.

  In the current scoring system of Norway cricket, Cricclubs , the oldest women series that is recorded is from 2016. From talking to players from that time, I learnt that girls have played cricket in Norway since 2013 and a national team was first established in 2014 however that time the international games for Norway did not have a T20I status. After 2016, the two out of the three teams from that time, Veitvet and Friends, discontinued. Falken girls stayed on, however had no opposition to play against in 2017 and 2018. Late in 2018, Vestli cricket club started with a women team who played a few friendlies against Falken girls in the winter. This is when I started playing cricket in Norway as a part of the emerging Vestli lady leopards. During that time, with the help of Coach Joshua Young, Gry tried to # restart the national women team and by then Norway has also received a T20I status. Season Summary for Vestli Cricket Club U13 Teams 2023

It was a rapid-fire but a fruitful season for the boys. Both our U13 teams have now played all their games barring one that is scheduled in August.  A team, led by Ismail Omar, played 9 games and won 7, lost 1 and got a walkover over Fossum. Haugerud U13, against whom we have lost three games in last three years proved to be our nemesis again. We lost the first game against them in the penultimate ball by 7 wickets. Haugerud's Husnain Masood had hit such huge sixes in that game that anyone's moral could have gone down. But a week later, the boys bounced back nicely. We made a plan to bowl slow yorker length balls to Masood and boys executed beautifully, getting him out in the second over. Following that the Haugerud team got all out giving us a modest total of 64 that the boys achieved in the 7th over without loosing any wickets.  The take away from this season would be the courage shown by Haider Ali and Pranaov Ranjith to open the bowling against Haugerud despite knowing how

Vestli U13 A team comfortably won their first two games against Vestli U13 B and Nord. Nord boys are developing well and will be a strong side very soon. Vestli U13 A lost a close game against City U13. Our Vice captain carried his bat with 38 in 27 balls with 3 boundaries and 2 sixes. One of the best U13 batting innings by a 9 year old. They put up a competitive total of 74. However city made those runs in the eighth over despite good balling relying on strong power hitting by their 13 year old captain. Congratulations to both teams for an excellent U13 game with only 12 wide and no balls combined in both the innings.
